What is Judo?

AN OLYMPIC SPORT THAT TEACHES DISCIPLINE

Judo is an Olympic sport that is popular with millions of people around the world. Founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882, judo translates as 'the gentle way'. Judo is a great way to stay physically fit and to improve mental strength. It can help children to develop self-confidence and self-esteem and it is more than just sport. It is a way of life.

At the core of Judo is a commitment to respect and honour. “Maximum efficiency with minimum effort and mutual welfare and benefit” is a key principle of the sport – not only should students learn to use as little effort as possible to throw their opponent, they should also use the self-discipline and mental strength that judo teaches to contribute to their local community.

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT OUR COACHES

Head coach Adam

Our head coach

FORMER BRITISH CHAMPION AND INTERNATIONAL ATHLETE.

Adam Hoshal, the head coach started his Judo journey when he was 13. His father wanted him to become more confident and find a new hobby. It didnt take long for Judo to become the highlight of his week. It allowed him to travel all around the world and make friends and some unforgettable memories.
